Job Description: 

Stop Uyghur Genocide is looking for a Communications Officer and Coordinator to join our team as we continue to grow our impact. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of, and interest in, protecting human rights, experience in developing and delivering campaigning materials and messages, and excellent office coordination skills.

Specific duties

1) Campaign Communications

  • Work closely with the Policy & Advocacy Officer to design effective communications to compliment campaigning activity.
  • Draft and design impactful content on key campaign issues, including action cards, leaflets, and briefings on policy; update materials such as parliamentary briefings.
  • Draft and design digital campaigning materials including supporter emails.
  • Support events by drafting op-eds, press releases relating to protests, parliamentary briefings, and other events.

2. General Communications

  • Develop messages and resources to engage audiences in Stop Uyghur Genocide’s campaigns.
  • Create interactive, engaging, and accessible social media output for campaigning purposes.
  • Support in preparing campaign updates for the quarterly newsletter and other communications.

3. Office Coordination

  • Support the team with website management, office support, printing, etc.
  • Assist the Executive Director with managing documentation and filing systems; office management.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as directed by your line manager.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in writing copy for a range of audiences.
  • Experience in managing social media with the ability to write content and drive growth across multiple channels.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of using graphic design tools such as Canva.
  • Experience in creating and editing video content – particularly for social media.
  • Experience working with WordPress. Knowledge of website management.
  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and able to respond swiftly to circumstances when required.

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in writing context that is tailored to parliamentarians, academics, donors, and/or activists.
  • Experience working within a political or media setting.
  • Degree in Politics, Journalism, or Law would be an advantage.

Salary: £26,000 – £28,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)
Contract: Term: 6-month fixed term contract in the first instance
Location: London
